It's Not Just Fox Commenters Anymore

If you go to the Fox news website and click on any article not related to politics, read the comment section for a laugh. Guaranteed, somewhere along the line, usually within the first ten comments, you will find a reference to Obama or politics in general. This article could be about archaeologists finding a random tooth in Eastern Europe, but some dumb ass is bound to make a political comment thinking that they are being clever.

I find this annoying - not because I am a fan of Obama's or anyone else, really. I despise all politicians equally and find most bipartisan banter boring. If I am reading reader submitted comments on a story on any given website, I'm reading them for the laughs and not because I feel that I will be stumbling across some sort of great insight. The latter is so rare that I don't even look for it any more. It just sort of makes my day and I move on without having lost too much hope in human intelligence.

Fox News is probably the biggest asshole magnet outside of MSN. As I said, the story could be as far removed from American politics as a story can be, and someone will pop in and make a racist comment about Obama, complain about the health care system, or somehow try to tie the current administration in with the story in some negative way. It is always a big fail, and it makes Fox readership look like a bunch of inbred knuckle draggers. I seriously wonder why Fox allows comments on their stories, because honestly, I know that not every Fox reader is like this, but these people are sure making it look that way.

But now, this idiocy is starting to spread. I've run across something of this nature at least three times today on three different news sites. I'm not even going to provide links because it's not even worth reading, and I am sure that one need not look far to find this sort of idiocy.

Stop it. Just stop it. You are welcome to be an asshole on a comment section because it is sometimes pure comedy gold, but now you're just trying too hard and it's starting to show. It's not funny any more. I'm embarrassed for you and for America.

  1. It's weird. I just ran into this yesterday.

I don't know if you'd heard about it but 3 inmates, with the help of an accomplice, escaped from the medium security prison where my husband works (wasn't during his shift =P). Here's the article: http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/07/31/arizona.prison.break/index.html?hpt=T1

Last I looked, every other damn comment (maybe more) was about Arizona & the immigration law. These weren't even Mexican prisoners, they were all white! Not that that makes a lick of difference. It had nothing to do with that...

But yeah. You see this bullshit everywhere. People just see a certain word like "Obama" or "Arizona" or "Healthcare." The knee-jerk reaction kicks in & they don't see anything else.

It's just kinda funny that I saw it yesterday & it pissed me off in much the same way, lol.

  2. Holy cow! Just read the article, and yeah, if you see "inmate", "Arizona" and "Mexico" all in the same article, and no one reads anything else. The comments are appalling.

I'm glad I am not the only one that sees this. I'm also glad that these guys didn't escape during your husband's shift. They are a pretty dangerous trio!

  3. One got caugh yesterday in Rifle, CO...about 670 miles from Kingman! The other two, plus the female accomplice, are thought to still be in Arizona.

I don't doubt they'll be caught soon but yeah, it sucks.

  4. It does suck. People don't even bother to read anything before they comment.

Hope the rest of them get caught soon!
